Jones’ Stephen Jump pulled ahead of the pack on the first lap with a 2:09, but after that the pack regrouped. Jones, Will Rice, Baker & Hanszen all battled for the lead, but it wasn’t until Martin’s 2:08 ride that WRC pulled ahead. We lost that lead on Dave’s ride, and the next four riders made a valiant effort to catch Jones, who had established a comfortable lead by the 8th leg. Stefan and Tommy Wick’s rides were incredibly fast (with no drafting), and we finished less than five seconds behind Jones. However, several teams, including Jones, were penalized for people crossing the track, so WRC won the title. Baker would have finished third (after a “photo finish” between Baker’s Harry Bruell and Hanszen’s Dave Crawford) but they were also penalized. Lovett’s second rider suffered a fall, and Lovett and Sid crashed on the tenth rider.

Hanszen & Lovett broke away from the pack early, but both riders faded as Brown pulled into first. With Sarah’s 2.5 chug and Elisa’s 1:29 ride, WRC pulled into first, and for the next five riders, the lead alternated between Will Rice and Brown, with Jones not far behind. On the seventh leg, Jones’ Andi Galt passed both Will Rice & Brown, and the following rider, Jenn Folk, rode fast enough to tie the track record (1:24) and pull Jones far enough ahead to clinch the title. Will Rice finished six seconds ahead of Brown. All three teams rode penalty-free races. Jones broke the team track record by two seconds (although the previous record of 16:01 by the ’88 Will Rice team included 3 penalties).

Garret came out with the pack, which remained tight for the first three riders. Daryl moved up towards the front, but due to a controversial penalty on Doug’s chug, Robb lost the pack, which by the beginning of the fourth rider started to split up. Hanszen and Wiess led, followed at some distance by Jones, Will Rice and Lovett. Dave and Lester managed to overcome Lovett, and Gary, Karl, Kevin, Stefan and Tommy rode fast, but were unable to catch the leaders without a draft. Jones caught Hanszen and Wiess, and Wiess was left behind after the eighth rider. The Hanszen anchor pulled away from the Jones anchor on the last lap, finishing just a second ahead.

Gadd came out of the pits last and steadily moved up, finishing with a group of four riders about 4 seconds behind the leaders. Hanszen & Brown led a tight pack for the first few riders. A slow pit caused Petra to come out of the pits in 7th place, but she managed to pull WRC up to third. Michele & Deirdre maintained 4th position (battling against a slow pit), and Kathi was passed by Sid and Jones to put WRC in fifth. Laura, Alicia and Elisa tried to make up some ground, but each faded on the second lap. Jones passed Sid, then Brown, and caught Hanszen by the 9th rider. Jones anchor Gretchen Wasserstrom was passed on the last lap by Hanszen anchor Steph Green, while Sid edged Brown for third. Sarah & Carrie made up some time, but not enough. There were no penalties for WRC, but the slow pit (read: chugging) was a big problem, as well as the inexperienced riding toward the end of the race. However, with the top five teams finishing within 10 seconds of each other & all being 16:10 & faster, this was the most competitve women's Beer-Bike ever.
