| After a false start and a collapsed chug table, Will Rice and Lovett (i.e. Tom and Chris Kreidler) battled for the lead on the first lap, with WRC pulling ahead just before the pits. WRC and Lovett and later Hanszen exchanged the lead several times, usually depending on when the women rode. Ruth pulled us into first and Mark kept us there, but Leslie slipped out of her toe clip on her second lap and we fell back into second. Pete and Chris rode incredibly fast rides, and put Craig right behind Hanszen's anchor man. It wasn't an easy victory, but Craig pulled ahead on the third turn of the second lap and we finished about four seconds ahead of Hanszen (and broke our own track record). | ||||

WRC came out of the pits towards the back (there was no official countdown, so Sarah started late), and Craig steadily pulled up through the pack and passed Lovett leadoff Chris Kreidler '87 on the backstretch of the 2nd lap to pull us into first. Ruth got passed by 3 guys, although she rode a fast, evenly paced ride. Rob pulled us back into second, and Bekra pulled us into first. Ted, Jen and Sean all rode quick laps to lengthen WRC's lead to almost a half lap. Eric's back tire "fell off" coming out of the pit and alternate Randall was sent out after a bit of hesitation, since the coordinator didn't immediately see the problem. Randall managed to gain back some of the ground we had lost to Hanszen and Jones. Tom grabbed and held on the second place, and Chris Frey pulled ahead of Hanszen's anchor. Hanszen, Jones and Lovett finished second, third and fourth, respectively. There were no penalties on WRC. Our final time broke our own track record. See photo of Jen and the pit crew. |

The original date for Beer Bike 1992 was rained out and the race was rescheduled for the following Friday afternoon. The alumni race was set too early for most of our alumni to participate so we chose not to field a team that year.

Rob passed at least two people to put us into second place, leading the way for me to pass the Lovett rider and pull us into first place. No one challenged us after that. See photos of Sean McVicker., Gary Raven and Mark Jenkins. NOTE: Mark also rode for the WRC men's team since he was (& still is) a university associated for WRC. |

Pete came out towards the back of the pack, slowly moved toward the front and then wisely sat on the wheel of the Jones rider in the lead. Lovett's Chris Kreidler was behind him and as he started to break away, so did Pete, effectively blocking Kreidler from taking the lead. Carrie was supposed to go second, but the bike she was using (mine) had a flat so we quickly rearranged the order. Dave, Bob & Eric all had solid rides and kept us in the top three. Carrie finally got to go fifth and pulled us up right behind first place. Todd Nix, the "rookie," blew everyone away with the fastest time of the day and pulled us into first. After that we just held on. Hanszen finished second, with Lovett or Jones a distant third. A few days later we were disqualified for only riding two women (the 3rd woman rider bailed at the last minute). |

There was a nasty wind on the backstretch, most of our strong riders were missing and we rode four women (for lack of other riders), so we finished a modest fourth behind Hanszen, Jones & Lovett. Hanszen won the race in the last stretch. A few of the Jones riders rode twice -- Stephen Jump & Henry Harper. As Doc says, "You gotta let 'em win every now and then or they won't play anymore." |

There was a mildly strong wind on the backstretch, and we didn't have a chugger ready when the horn blew to start the race. However, we calmly moved from dead last up to first. Charlotte Fischer, the total beer-bike rookie, kicked butt and passed lots of people, as did Adam and Todd, who pulled us into first. We did nothing but strengthen our lead after that and won handily with a half lap lead over Hanszen and Lovett. |

| There was a fairly strong wind on the frontstretch. The coordinator sent the first biker way too early, so Craig had to ride in the lead all by himself and we were penalized by five seconds. We lost the lead to Hanszen because of that penalty and a few others, but stayed in contention with solid rides by all. Randall and Tammy made up a lot of ground and James pulled us into first after the Hanszen rider came out of his clip. Mark lengthened the lead against a female rider, and Todd finished it off. Hanszen finished second with one of their bikers, Mike Doyle, riding three times! | ||||

|
||||
| Fairly strong wind on the frontstretch. Craig came out in the middle of the pack. The Jones riders pulled ahead and Craig jumped on his wheel, and passed him on the 3rd turn of the 2nd lap. A pit penalty held us back, so we battled with Brown, Hanszen and Jones for the lead. Jones eventually dropped out of contention, and then so did Brown. Scot made up lots of time and caught the Hanszen rider. Tammy rode a smart race, sitting on the wheel of the Hanszen rider for almost a lap before dropping him and widening the gap. With no competition, Mark, Brian and Todd furthered our lead. Since the old track records were officially retired, the team time became new track records. | ||||

Strong wind all over the place.
Craig came out towards the back of the pack and steadily
moved up, sitting behind the lead rider (Hanszen?) for
most of the second lap and then pulling ahead. Drew came
out of the pit just behind the leader and quickly passed
him. We never lost the lead after that and handily passed
all but the second place team, Jones. |
